Weightloss Competitions - Do they work?
I’m not talking about the challenges on here. It’s the Biggest Loser type competitions where money and community are involved. For those who have and/or are participants in such things - does the money at the end of it motivate you to do better? Or does it keep you on track to know that you are competing with people that you will see a few times a month?
The local MOMS group that I belong to is having a 12 week one and I’m thinking of joining. The amount of money required is minimal so the end result won’t be that large. I guess my biggest drawback is that I know there is a personality conflict with the woman heading it up, but since she has this conflict with just about everyone, it’s not that big of a deal to me since I know it’s not personal. (She’s the president of the chapter this year.)
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was in a Biggest Loser Contest at my CURVES last year which I proudly won!!! It helps you to stay on track knowing that you have to weigh-in weekly and if you don’t lose weight you are out of the competition. I like that kind of drive. I am currently in another contest the KMART New Day New You contest NATIONWIDE and it’s basically the same except a biggest jackpot. I like the way it gets you on track and your more likely to accomplish your goals or your out of the contest. I’m a big competitor so I like the chase and the fun of it all, and the benefits for your body after one of these contest is amazing. I do four workouts a day Billy Blanks taebo and HIP HOP ABS and walk on my treadmill for 35 mins. Had it not been for the contest Iwould have only done two workouts so they (contest) push me harder. And the money is nice but too me it’s like totally last because I feel better, look better clothes are wonderful vs. my old 24’s I’m leaning to a size 14 now so it has it advantages. Hope this was helpful to you. All the best to you!
I would really like to do something like that. I say go for it! It is extra motivation for you and hey, you might get some extra cash out of it. There are always going to be personality conflicts. Just show her how tough you are and win that challenge! Even if you don’t win, you might just drop a few pounds.
I think they can be motivating whether it’s for the money or simply for bragging rights. But, I do have to say that some people can take it over the top and then have sour grapes. Some people can start declaring that others are cheating in some way or another or in my case I did alot of the hard work to only have the other participant drop out for a reason I thought didn’t sound right so I didn’t win a dime in the end. So if you want to do it for funzies, then do it. But if you have a sense that someone might be negative about the whole thing from the get go, maybe not then. Go with your gut.
