I just had to ask, didn’t I

My mom called at 5:45 this morning to tell me that my Dad has had two heart attacks in the past 2 days.  Both have been mild and he didn’t even go to the hospital for the first one.  He’s expected to go home in a couple of days, but is going to have to change a few things.  Fortunately, their diet is pretty good since my Mom had a major heart attack nearly 6 years ago and she chose to deal with the recovery proccess through diet an exercise instead of just medication.  Just means he’s got to exercise a bit more and make sure he takes his medication.

I have found my motivation again, that’s for sure.  Mom at 59 and Dad at 69 having heart attacks, a grandmother who died from a heart attack, grandfather from stroke.  Yeah, I think I’ve got my motivation back.  I just wish I could go to Maine today, but there’s no way I can with 2 kids and 2 dogs.  If anything more serious happens, I will be on the next flight out, but right now, I’m not needed there.

I did almost forget one thing - GO RED SOX!

I am so sorry to hear about your Father. It is so hard. I just went through loosing my mother to the same thing. She just couldn’t recover from a triple bypass. So yes, I also understand the motivation on your part. It’s something I carry with me all the time. Its great for temptations to say to yourself. Do I want to die or not. It makes for an easy choice. You hang in there, and I will be there. have a wonderful weekend and stay strong.

So sorry about your Dad. I lost my mother at the age of 60 after she lost a leg at 55 and had heart failure several times. I have diabetes.Type 2. It is really a major problem in my Mom’s family. I had just lost 100 pounds when mine was discovered at age 46. Because of complete change of lifestyle I am now on no med or insulin for diabetes. But I have so much newer equipment to help me with my blood sugar. It means a better quality of life for us when we get control. Hang in there! I am 70 and will never quit trying to do this. It can be done. Read Dr. Dean Ornish’s Reversing Heart Disease. I don’t go as far with his diet as he suggests, but the ideas are great. Thinking of you and your family, Marge

These bad bad events at least have this benefit - that they sort out our perspectives. I’m thinking of you and hoping for the best, dear. Family is the most important thing in the world. Together you’ll get through this and come out stronger and healthier, all of you.

My husbands family has a huge problem with heart diease. His father, 3 uncles and grandmother all died from heart attack all under the age of 65. His brother has high cholestrol and BP, my hubby is very aware of this and we both try and make safe choices.
I’m so sorry to here about your father. I’ll pray for their recovery.
